Professional experience
Sherry Shipman has spent her legal career as a trial attorney. Having tried over 60 jury trials—primarily in Denton County—her experience and knowledge of Denton County, its courts, and the Denton County community are invaluable to her clients. Ms. Shipman is a long-time Denton resident, a graduate of Denton High School and the University of North Texas.
Sherry Shipman has litigation and jury trial experience throughout the North Texas area, including Dallas, Tarrant, Wise, Cooke and Jack Counties, as well as in the Texas federal court system.
Sherry Shipman represents individuals and businesses in civil litigation matters. Ms. Shipman has represented clients in claims that include violations of the DTPA (Deceptive Trade Practice Act), breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, employment law claims (sexual harassment, race, sex, national origin and religious discrimination, worker’s compensation retaliation, noncompete and nonsolicitation agreements), civil rights violations, breach of partnership agreement, bad faith insurance claims, shareholder derivative claims and oil and gas disputes.
From 1999 to 2001, during and following law school, Ms. Shipman worked for the law firm of Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff and Miller, L.L.P. in Fort Worth, gaining experience in that firm's civil litigation section. For two and a half years, Ms. Shipman was a Denton County Assistant Criminal District Attorney and represented the State of Texas in hundreds of cases involving criminal matters and the termination of parental rights in cases of child neglect or abuse. Since 2004, Ms. Shipman has practiced in the area of civil litigation, primarily in Denton and is a shareholder of Shipman Steppick.
